St. Andrew’s Church in Osiek
|
Osiek Local government: Osiek |
St. Andrew’s Church in Osiek was most likely built in 1538-49 in place of a previous church. It is a late-gothic Silesian-style building. At the end of the C15th and the beginning of the C17th it served as a Calvinist church. In 1907 a new brick church was built in Osiek – since when the wooden church has remained unused. The ceilings and walls inside it have retained fragments of C16th, C17th and C18th paintings. The forms of the baroque main altar and the rococo pulpit, shaped like a boat, from the second half of the C18th, are remarkable. The church is surrounded by monumental oaks which are over 500 years old. |
